Celeste is one of the nicest, most under-the-radar patterns Libbey made. I’ve only ever seen this pattern a handful of times. Celeste is essentially a combination of all the best Libbey patterns. Little bits of Aztec, Kensington, Marcella, and Grand Prize shine through. A gorgeous thing to be certainly designed by the master – William C. Anderson. This tray is signed Libbey along the edge.

Where to start with this piece? How about the triple miter cane? That motif is some of the most incredible cutting I’ve seen – with tons of depth and relief to each hobnail – how one never got knocked off, I’ll never know (especially considering there are nearly 120 points to the motif). Each of the fields of triple-miter cane is surrounded by tiny, flat hobstars that meet two clear button hobstars and a larger Christmas hobstar. In between each of these intensely cut areas is a very deep hobstar with both the top and bottom points filled in with crosshatching – anywhere the cutter had an opportunity to add something on this piece, they did. The center of the bowl features a maltese-cross of diamond point hexad, which was one of the most difficult cuts of the Brilliant Period. They converge at a flat hobstar and have intense checking in between each bar. The amount of depth achieved on the curved blank of this tray is astounding.

This bowl is cut and signed by J. Hoare in their very rare and always desirable Kohinoor design. Kohinoor came in two renditions – one features all perpendicular miters whereas this one they intersect at nearly 45 degree angles – which allows for more miters and more hobstars. I think it’s far more brilliant and impressive.

The amount of relief and depth achieved from these thing, triple miter cuts are unbelievable. Each tiny hobstar comes off the bowl especially around the curved portions.

The condition of the bowl is perfect and it’s on a perfectly clear blank. It’s also quite heavy and sharp and measures 9″ wide and 3″ tall.

This particularly well done, attractive bowl was cut and signed by Hawkes in their Cordova design. I’ve only seen one other piece in this pattern before so I believe it to be quite rare.

There’s a gorgeous cross of tight Kohinoor cutting in the center meeting at a central flat hobstar. In between each spoke of the cross is a vesica of cane framing an 9 point hobstar. Clear notching linking each vesica sits beneath a cluster motif with Russian-like cutting and hobstars/crosshatching.

The bowl is in great condition but has a bit of roughness to one corner – nothing significant. It measures 8 3/4″ wide and 3″ tall.

Needless to say, colored stems have been one of the most popular items for many years. The reasons are plentiful – they don’t take up much room and provide an interesting splash of color to our mostly clear collections. They’re also rare. What we see most of in ABP glass is green and cranberry. This gold or amber color is particularly hard to find and was likely made by Hawkes or Dorflinger.

The Russian design drapes around the exterior of the bowl with intersecting lines in all directions. They provide clear buttons which show off the color all the more. The stem is fluted while the base is rayed.

The wine glass is in perfect condition and measures 4 3/4″ tall and 2 3/4″ wide. It’s in perfect condition.

This carafe and two matching tumblers was cut by American Cut Glass Co. and designed by William. C. Anderson. It is in a more intense rendition of their Oasis design.

A shooting star sits central in the pattern surrounded on all ends by feathering around the stem. Panels of flat hobstars, adjacent fields of crosshatching and fans adorn the rest of the carafe. The neck is fluted and notched and the base is finished in the rayed star. The tumblers feature the pattern perfectly with no compromises.

The set is in perfect condition and on perfectly clear blanks. The carafe is 8 1/2″ tall and 6″ wide while the tumblers are 3 3/4″ tall and 3″ wide. This is a bargain price on a terrific set.

This is an item I have only seen one other of ever – it’s a pitcher with a cooling cylinder fused on the interior for ice. The other one I saw was also a piece of Hawkes, but in a pattern not nearly as nice. This one is cut in Hawkes older, more desirable Aberdeen with clear tusks.

Huge hobstars go around the upper bout of the pitcher and are separated on the top by long fans. The lower portion features a split vesica of strawberry-diamond cutting. On either side of that is a deeply cut clear tusk – one of the hardest to cut motifs of the period. The spout is fluted and notched and the handle is triple notched. Also on the thumb rest of the handle, there is a notch framing it – usually a sign of early, Brilliant Period glass.

The pitcher is in perfect condition and measures a very large 9 1/2″ tall and 5 1/2″ wide. It’s very heavy and large and cut on a gorgeous, wood-wheel polished blank.

This is a very large, heavy bowl cut in the Savoy design by Dorflinger. This pattern is seldom seen and I also have a great rose globe in the same design here.

The Savoy pattern is made up of four very deeply and accurately cut 24-point hobstars. The hobstars are divided by beading and a vesica featuring a flat hobstar in the top half and a fan in the lower portion. Crosshatching leads to the base of the bowl where the most fascinating part of this piece is located. It features 8 TUSKS (one of the most difficult motifs of the period) divided by more beading which meet in the center at four fanned fields.

The bowl is in great condition and on a wood polished, clear blank. It measures 10 1/4″ wide and 4 1/2″ tall.

This is an exceptionally nice pitcher with a number of unusual details – setting it apart from most other pitchers. The blank is unique, but I’d attribute the piece to Hoare if any company.

Large hobstars blank the sides and front of the pitcher perched atop triangular fields of crosshatching and hobnail cutting. In between each of these hobstars is a long, vertical vesica with a flat hobstar sitting above tiny Russian cutting. The vesica is framed by notched cutting. The Handle is triple notched and the base is covered with a 24-point hobstar. Please note the extra detailed cutting on the edge of the pedestal base!

The pitcher is in perfect condition and measures 10 1/2″ tall and 5 1/2″ wide. The blank is stunning and clear as should be expected of a piece of this quality.

This rose globe shows what Hawkes was able to do best – contrast with clear and brilliantly cut glass. This globe was cut in Teutonic and is signed with the Hawkes trademark on the base.

Alternating panels of hobstar chains, and deeply cut flutes alternate around the perimeter of the globe. So much glass is cut away on the flutes, that it gives the piece an angular look – it is mesmerizing. The rose globe is finished with a 20-point hobstar base.

The rose globe is in perfect condition and measures 5 1/4″ tall and 6″ wide. The blank is of the very highest quality and is completely clear and devoid of flaws.

This spectacular vase was engraved by Hawkes and has fabulous silver throughout. It was likely made for a 25th anniversary as it is marked “L.C. and F.S.S.” on one side of the rim and “1877-1902″ on the other. The silver is marked by retailer – Bigelow, Kennard & Co. It was likely made by Gorham

The vase has deeply polished, gravic Iris engraving. The silver really adds a touch of class to the piece with integrated handles, flowered rim, and embossed foot.

The vase is in perfect condition and measures 7” tall.

This beautiful bowl was designed by William C. Anderson and made by the American Cut Glass Company. It features several of his design traits which are considered many to be the best of the period.

The bowl is split into three sections surrounding unusual hobstar formations. There are deep scallops cut between the points of each hobstar which are divided by notched cutting. Below each hobstar is checking – another Anderson motif. The other portions of the design feature a cluster of three clear-button hobstars with bands of cane spurring off of each.

The bowl is in perfect condition and measures 9 1/2″ wide and 2″ tall. It’s on a perfectly clear blank.

Copper wheel engraving doesn’t get better than this! This ewer features exceptional detail and was likely an engraver’s masterpiece work. I believe it’s of European origin – there are a few pieces, on this blank in, in the book “British Glass.” They’re all in museums and I consider this piece better in many ways. For starters, the size is unheard of – measuring 15″ tall and 9″ WIDE! Please see the photo of it next to a standard 12″ vase.
The ewer features 3 pairs of birds (two fighting). Then, starting from the top, all types of insects from the top down – all different. Most pieces with insects feature only one to two types. This has 8. Additionally, the handle is seamlessly engraved from the body. The pictures speak for themselves – I have never seen another piece quite like this one.
The piece is in excellent condition. It was likely made by a top engraver at Webb for presentation – significantly larger than all others like it.
