This is a fantastic pitcher in Dorflinger’s Heavy Flute & Star Band. This exact piece is shown in the Dorflinger line Drawing catalog.

The thickness and clarity of this blank is staggering – somehow they’ve cut away half of the piece with heavy flutes and that relief can be seen at the depth of the band. The band is made up for clear button hobstars  with split vesicas of crosshatching. The base of the piece is finished with a deep hobstar while the handle is fluted and notched.

The pitcher is in perfect condition and measures . It’s extremely heavy despite all the glass cut away to create this staggering effect.

This gorgeous bowl was cut by J. Hoare – it is shown mounted with Gorham silver in the new Gorham catalog produced by the ACGA.

The pattern on this bowl is complex and very fine. A central hexagonal hobstar adorns the middle of the piece. Each corner leads to another hobstar which is framed in vesicas of cane that run into tiny hobstars and crosshatching. As the glass moves towards the rim, it is cut in an unusual, deeply-cut diamond motif. The glass combined with the top-tier Gorham silver is perfection.

Bowls with silver rims are always popular, but this one takes that type of piece to another level. Both the glass and silver are better than most I’ve come across. The bowl measures a large 11″ accross the silver and 4″ tall.

This orange bowl is cut in the extremely rare and highly desirable Marcella pattern by Libbey. It is on the highest quality blank with the best quality cutting. It is said that only three cutters could produce this design at Libbey and it was designed by William C. Anderson. It is signed with the Libbey sabre in the center.

Marcella is split into four sections of the design. The main motif is a large cluster of 6 clear-button hobstars. The clusters are separated on either side by diamond-point hexad which is surrounded by notching and a clear button hob. The center of the tray is stunning with a square of diamond point hexad. The square is surrounded by amazingly cut half-hobstars. It’s really an impressive feat.

The orange bowl is in perfect condition and measures 12 3/4″ long, 6″ wide, and 4 1/2″ tall. It’s on a stunning, clear blank and cut to pieces.

This is a gorgeous piece of glass that exemplifies what Dorflinger is all about. It is cut in their Essex design on the thickest, clearest blank and is wood-wheel polished to mirror-like perfection.

The Essex design features six 20-point hobstars. Running up in between each one is a pinched fan that runs towards the center and meets fields of strawberry-diamond cutting. These diamond-shaped fields surround a large, deeply-cut hobstar.

The blank on this punch bowl is extremely impressive – heavy, thick and clear. It measures 13″ wide and is in perfect condition.

This elegant decanter was cut by JD Bergen in their Florida design. The unusual shape is standout as is the pattern-cut stopper.

Punties wrap around the top bulge of the decanter. From that several type of notching run vertically down the bowy of the decanter. These notches are repeated on the pattern-cut stopper along with a visible teardrop.

The decanter measures 10″ tall and 3 1/2″ wide. It’s in perfect condition with no damage and on a clear blank.

This piece is made of a giant hunk of glass. It weighs approximately 8 pounds. The top is marked with 3 hallmarks and sterling – it’s hard to make out the hallmarks, but I’d venture to say they’re the Gorham lion/anchor/G. The glass seems like Dorflinger in cutting and polish.

Each side of the inkwell has a large 12-point hobstar with a clear-button interior hobstar. As the design wraps up to the top, the corners are cut in fan and the central portion a deeply cut crosshatching. The base is finished with a rayed star. The sterling top is monogrammed in highly-stylized intials.

Giant inkwells like this are quite rare and this one is in excellent condition. It measures 4″ wide and 5 1/4″ tall. It’s in great condition with a few minor flakes in the cutting.

This whisky was cut by Libbey in their rare and always well-done Prism pattern. Prism was one of the most expensive designs in the catalog and uses, tight fine cutting to achieve an intriguing, impressive display. Both pieces are signed with the saber.

From the base of the decanter, there are four layers of clear hobnail cane. This hobnail blends seamlessly into extremely fine crosshatching. This crosshatching sandwiches the namesake prism cutting of this pattern – this is the same type of cutting featured in Libbey’s Ellsmere pattern with great relieve to clear channels. The neck of the decanter is fluted and notched all the way up to the lapidary spout. Impressively, the handle is cut-in-pattern and the stopper is crosshatched with a clear button hobstar on top.

The decanter is in perfect condition and would make a fine addition to any collection.

This compote/tazza is one of my favorite shapes of the brilliant period. It is in their Roman pattern and the exact piece is featured heavily in their advertisements-clearly something  they were proud of. I have had another of these before, but this one is larger and the neck column is much thicker.

The Roman pattern features thick bands of cane crisscrossing one another throughout the entire pattern. Small hobstars and diamond-shaped fans connect all of these bands. In between the cane bands are large deep hobstars and flatter ones. The neck of this piece is incredible and nearly 2″ thick of solid glass. The base is also quite thick and features a 32-point scalloped hobstar.

The compote weighs a very heavy 9 lbs and measures 9″ high and 7 1/2″ wide at the top. A spectacular cutting and form is featured here and it’s just an incredible piece to behold!

I’ve only ever seen this design four times. It’s an early pattern by Hawkes – one that is extremely well cut, deeply and wood-wheel polished.

Vesicas device large areas of very deeply cut hobstars. The vesicas are made up for a split center run of notching topped with crosshatching. It is topped with a another deeply cut hobstar separated by fanned fields. The center of the platter has 4 smaller, but exceptionally deep cut hobstars.

The polish/finish on the piece is second to none – early Hawkes achieved this with different levels of polish-some areas left unfinished for textural contrast. The blank of the bowl is thick, heavy and measures 9 1/2″ wide and 4″ tall.

This whimsical piece was likely done by the craftsmen at J. Hoare. This style of basket and apttern were almost exclusively done by Hoare and I have seen this design cut on many Hoare blanks.

Clear button hobstars are surrounded by weaving bands of split notching and crosshatching. Fans lie in the valleys of each ribbon. The seamless handle is completely cut with crosshatched fields winding up and over the whole piece. Even the center hobstar stays in parallel with the rest of the piece with a clear button center.

The basket is in great condition with one small fleck at the rim.

This is one of my all time favorite patterns. Hawkes old Imperial pattern is made up of their finest work.

Rich large hobstars, small clear button hobstars and panels of crosshatching are intertwined with the deepest triple miter motif. The triple miter portion weaves out of every nook and cranny on the bowl and half the blank must have been cut away to allow for this highly skilled cutting. I have attached a photo showing just the depth of the piece.

The Imperial pattern features wood wheel polishing and they even left the crosshatched patterns unpolished like most of Hawkes’ better, older work. The bowl is 9″ in diameter and 4″ tall. The blank is beautifully vibrant despite all the busy cutting and very heavy as well.

This bowl, cut in the early part of the Brilliant Period by Hoare,  is in the Russian and Pillars/Swirl design. It is wood wheel polished with that gorgeous, silky finish.  I have never seen this large square bowl shape.

The design features swirling s-shaped bands of Russian interspersed with two clear tusks. This was one of the hardest motifs to cut from the period – requiring the most skilled cutter to shape with the naked eye. The base is finished in a huge Hoare-style base hobstar with 24 points.

The bowl is in perfect condition and measures 9″ wide and 4″ tall. It’s quite heavy on a beautiful blank.
