Very large, heavy Inkwell with Silver Top SOLD

This piece is made of a giant hunk of glass. It weighs approximately 8 pounds. The top is marked with 3 hallmarks and sterling – it’s hard to make out the hallmarks, but I’d venture to say they’re the Gorham lion/anchor/G. The glass seems like Dorflinger in cutting and polish.

Each side of the inkwell has a large 12-point hobstar with a clear-button interior hobstar. As the design wraps up to the top, the corners are cut in fan and the central portion a deeply cut crosshatching. The base is finished with a rayed star. The sterling top is monogrammed in highly-stylized intials.

Giant inkwells like this are quite rare and this one is in excellent condition. It measures 4″ wide and 5 1/4″ tall. It’s in great condition with a few minor flakes in the cutting.
