Gorgeous, Old Hawkes Aberdeen Champagne Pitcher – SOLD |
This fantastic pitcher was done in Hawkes’ Aberdeen design. It is wood wheel polished and features long, clear tusks which are only in the finer, earlier rendition of this pattern.
A large, split vesica of strawberry-diamond cutting draps along the sides of the pitcher. Separating each of these is a long, clear tusk – one of the most difficult motifs to cut in the Brilliant Period. Sitting above this cutting is a deeply cut hobstar. Amazingly, on the front side they actually halved the hobstar to accommodate for the spout while the back side they shortened the vesica to accommodate for the handle. The handle is triple notched with fan cutting at the base. The bottom of the pitcher is covered with a rayed star.
This is a very fine quality piece and measures 11 1/2″ tall and 5″ wide. It’s in perfect condition on a exceptionally clear blank.
