This enormous tray was cut in Meriden’s Star design. It was featured prominently in their advertisements – clearly one of the best and most worthwhile pieces the company ever made.

The center of the tray features and 8-pointed star formation made up of crosshatching, cane, and tiny hobstars. This frames an interior hobstar. The exterior of the tray has huge, 32-point hobstars that run up to the edge.

The blank of the tray is fantastic – very heavy and clear and shows off the richly cut work that Meriden is so well known for. It measures 13 3/4″ wide and 1 1/2″ tall. Trays this large and nice seldom come along, and this is marvel to observe.

This is a Dorflinger Rock Crystal punch bowl . All the entire piece, including the collar is done in clear tusk and then polished copper wheel engraving on each tusk by Joseph Horn as cited in the documents. I have copies of original documents (attached) . Shown is an invoice from John Dorflinger to Arthur Roth in 1950. John had matching punch cups made in the 50’s, but I do not have these – they are discussed in the letter. According to John, this was a one of a kind, museum quality piece. The buyer, Arthur Roth, was apparently a well known businessman known as “Mr. Long Island” – more can be found here.

This piece was sold at Rago auction in 2009 for $6765 (including premium)  with a chip – it has now been restored to undetectable perfection. The documents are from that auction, and I do not have them in hand but do have the copies. The punch cups, which wouldn’t be of much value, are not with the punch bowl any longer. Considering a clear Montrose punch bowl just sold for $9375 (including premium) at auction, I’d think this would be a more than fair deal.

The punch bowl is 14″ wide and just under 12″ tall and on the finest of Dorflinger blanks. The 16 clear tusks would make this punch bowl impressive enough, but combine the history and the detailed rock-crystal engraving, and you have a fabulous piece with the provenance to match.

Hawkes are well known for their use of thise type of shape – commonly referred to as a blowout bowl. They resemble snowflakes and have always been aesthetically pleasing and coveted among collectors. This is an older piece and is wood-wheel polished.

A beautiful framed hobstar lies in the center of the bowl, surrounded on all sides by a clear scallop cutting. Pockets of the bowl are filled with alternating Russian and Persian designs. The contrast between that and the clear segue-ways between sections of the bowl is stunning.

This piece is quite heavy and clear, measuring 10 1/2″ wide and 3″ tall. It’s in excellent condition with no visible damage. This is a great old piece by one of the premier makers of the Brilliant Period.

This is a very detailed 14″ tray by Egginton. The design is similar to their Cambria pattern, but much more detailed with tighter, more skilled cutting. It is signed with the Egginton crescent and star logo.

The center of the platter features a six point star formation. Branching from that are 6 bands of tight cane framed on both sides by beautiful, precise notching. Lying in between each branch is a large hobstar framed with crosshatching, perched atop a tight fan.

The plate is in excellent condition-no damage can be found and the blank is exceptionally clear – as I would expect from Egginton on a piece of this caliber. It measures 14″ wide and 1″ tall. Plates of this size are automatic rarities, but one cut this well only adds to the draw and desirability.

This a great melding of form and design. This dish is cut in Blackmer’s Princess design and it is setup perfectly on this shape.

And 8-pointed star formation takes up the center of this piece – it includes crosshatched triangles surrounding a deeper hobstar. There are vesicas with two stacked hobstars with hobnail in between. The main motif in the pattern are large fans of notching topped with fan cutting. Each lobe of the dish has one of these large fans and it displays perfectly.

The dish is in excellent condtiion with just a few tiny felabites in the cutting. It measures 9” long, 7 3/4” wide, 2 3/4” tall.

This cute cologne was cut in Hawkes early Brazilian pattern. The entire piece is wood-wheel polished. Additionally, the stopper was crafted by Gorham.

The sides of the cologne feature deeply cut 8-point clear-button hobstars. Crosshatching falls between all of the points. Fans sprout forth from in between each star and reach a diamond topping off the pattern. The base is finished with a deep, rayed star.

The cologne is in great condition and measures . Piece adorned with silver have become highly desirable and will continue to grow in popularity. This is a great cabinet piece and a beautiful combination of silver’s lustre and the glass’s brilliance.

I absolutely adore this piece in Libbey’s very rare and extremely well done Rosella pattern. This was Libbey’s most expensive pattern according to their catalog – more than Aztec, Marcella and the various other Libbey rarities. The piece is signed Libbey on the edge.

The Rosella pattern is a beautiful display of William C. Anderson’s finest design traits. A chain of clear button hobstars runs along hte edge  of the piece surrounded by feathering and a checked motif. The center four-point formation is made up for 4 clear button hobstars, crosshatching, and a larger, central hobstar. The rope handle is a display of genius glassmaking with twisted molten glass and the ends are crosshatched.

The basket measures 9″ long and 7 3/4″ wide. There are no condition issues and both handles are attached perfectly. The glass and cutting is of the highest, brilliant quality.

Assyrian is easily one of Sinclaire’s most desirable and recognizable geometric designs. This plate combines that rich cut glass with an engraved border. It’s signed in the center.

The checkerboard styling of the Assyrian pattern is eye-catching and intriguing. The detail to get those flat, clear channels is unfathomable and then the weaving of an almost lace-like miter across the entire pattern is stunning. Tiny hobstars stud the entire geometric portion of the piece and the amount of relief acheived leaves a diamond-like sparkle.. The engraved border provides a classy contrast to the plate.

The plate is in perfect condition and measures 10″ in diameter. The blank is wonderfully clear and provides the perfect canvas for this American Brilliant treasure. These sell regularly at auction for $2000 or more in the last year. This is priced to sell.

This is a particularly unusual shape for Alhambra. It’s a sandwich plate with a wafer/short pedestal. The glass is quite thick and heavy towards the center where the blank is about twice as thick. The rim treatment is also unusual for Alhambra, but this is how Meriden cut this blank.

Below the rounded, scallop edge top is a chain of cut and unpolished Greek key. The rest of the Alhambra pattern is composed of chains of hobstars and bands of cane. The underside of the wafer is cut with a notching around the perimeter. The cutting on this plate is considerably precise, tight, and sharp and the glass is beautifully clear.

This piece measures 10″ in diameter and is in perfect condition. Alhambra is one of the most desirable patterns of the Brilliant Period – this shape is one of the rarer forms it was cut in.

I find the Chrysanthemum pattern to be one of the most underrated of the Brilliant Period. A lot of work goes into each piece and the accuracy, depth and polish are unmatched. It’s also aesthetically pleasing and instantly recognizable. This is an older piece and wood wheel polished.

The pattern features four large vesicas. The center porition is made up of a split vesica of crosshatching. It’s framed by cane cutting that converges on a clear center, 8-point hobstar. The star is surrounded on either side by fan cutting. Lying between each large vesica is a deeply cut 22-point hobstar. These hobstars are cut on the curve of the bowl and show extreme depth and precision, seemingly extending further than any other part of the bowl.

The bowl is in great condition with just some minor fleabites and some surface scratching. It measures 9″ wide and 2″ tall. This low bowl displays this particularly lovely pattern quite well. The quality/price ratio can’t be beat.

This piece was most likely cut by Hawkes. It is unsigned but extremely similar to the Brunswick and Marquise patterns and on a blank I’ve seen cut by Hawkes as well.

The design on this cup features a chain of hobstars around the top portion with fans between each. Trickling down from those are notching and zipper cutting. In between a set of four vertical cuts, are a deep, clear scallop. The base tapers in and features fluted and notched cutting. The handles, which are perfectly annealed are double notched. Please not the dramatic flair of the top – it’s really a stunning shape. The base is finished in a rayed star.

The cup is in perfect conditions with no flaws that I can find. The blank is wonderfully clear and brilliant and measures 8″ wide (handle to handle) and 6 3/4″ tall.

These wines, cut in Strawberry Diamond and fan are exceptional. Each stem is cased in deep cranberry glass and cut back to the clear portion. While most stems like this have clear bottoms, the glass maker went the extra mile and used color to clear bases as well! While many companies cut this design, it’s likely these were done by an earlier company like Dorflinger, Hawkes or even Boston & Sandwich. It’s difficult to accurately capture colored glass by camera, but these stems are the deep cranberry typically associated with American cut glass.

The Strawberry Diamond pattern consists of a crosscutting of deeper and shallower miters. The deeper ones frame a section of four diamonds. These diamonds shimmer and really pop with the cut-to-clear effect. The stems are fluted and the bases rayed.

It’s estimated that only 1-5% of American Brilliant Cut Glass was done in color. I can also estimate that stems with colored bottoms probably make up 5% of the colored stem market. So these stems are a true rarity. The deep cranberry color is stunning and will make your cabinets pop. I have 8 of these stems and will offer quantity discounts. Price is per stem.
