Fiery, Skilled Bowl – SOLD |
This bowl embodies what many of us look for in Brilliant Cut Glass. Sharp, dazzling cutting covers the entire piece and shoots prism in every direction. I seem to remember seeing this piece identified as Hoare once, but have not been able to find that reference.
The identifying portion of this pattern consists of four vesicas of hobnail surrounding a hobstar. This motif is similar to Blackmer’s Nordica pattern. There is another vesica which features three stacked hobstars surrounding on every crosscut with crosshatching and fans. The most impressive part of this bowl however, is the cutting at the center. Four small hobstars are in cross formation, in the center of them lies a tiny, perfectly cut hobstar. What’s so amazing about this one hobstar is that it sits perched atop a very deep relief by itself and is smaller than a fingertip. It’s difficult to describe, but extremely impressive. It is shown in the last photo.
The bowl is on a perfect blank and measures 8″ wide and 2″ tall. This showy pattern really stands out amongst the crowd and is nothing short of fiery.
