Enormous Wide Mouth Vase – SOLD |
Want something to impress visiting company? This vase is it. Its sheer size and quality of cutting will impress anyone – glass collector or not. I believe this piece to be made by the Kelly & Steinman company. It is a slight variation of their Roman pattern in which they managed to cram sunburst into the cutting. Additionally K&S seemed to produce quite a few of these very unusual, large vases.
The pattern of this vase features thick bands of cane crisscrossing one another throughout the entire pattern. Diamond-shaped fans connect all of these bands which surround large hobstars or sunburst cutting framed by crosshatching. The rim of the vase is made up of a 3-pronged form made up of the cane with fan in between each spur. The base of this piece is covered with a deep 24-point hobstar.
I can’t street how large and impressive this vase is. It measures 11 3/4″ tall and a whopping 8 1/8″ wide! The flare of the rim and girdle like-form is one I’ve never seen. It’s amazing in every way imaginable.
