Highly Desirable Hawkes North Star Pitcher – SOLD |
This gorgeous pitcher is cut in Hawkes’ North Star pattern. It is signed under the handle with the Hawkes trefoil. A pitcher, identical to this one, sold at Woody Auction on August 28, 2010 for $1900. I’m offering this piece for significantly less than the price realized at auction.
The North Star pattern is quite showy – the main motif being what is a normal hobstar perimeter engulfing an undulating rayed star. The contrast of the heavy cutting with the delicate interior cutting is an impressive achievement in design. The rest of the pattern is made up of a flashed star made of fan and deeper miters. Pattern continuity is impeccable with the main motif continued across the base! The handle is fully cut in the highest quality that Hawkes saved for their top-tier handled pieces.
The pitcher is in excellent condition with no damage and measures 8 7/8″ tall and 5 1/8″ wide. The blank is exceptional and of the highest quality. This price is a steal for such a desirable piece from the Brilliant Period.
