Cute Tuthill Wild Rose Basket 1-1 Pattern – SOLD |
Possibly Tuthill’s most desirable design, the Wild Rose pattern displays beautifully on this smaller basket. It is the ideal combination between geometric and realistic engraving that Tuthill was particularly skilled with. It is signed with the Tuthill trademark.
Each of the four panels of engraving on this basket are slightly different. Sometimes featuring full blooms, other times buds, with leaves in various places. The depth and realistic nature of the intaglio is astonishing. Each panel is divided by tight hobnail which leads to a pointed hobstar. The rim is finished in silvery crosshatching and both serrated and finished with a point. Even the twist rope handle has a bit of engraving at the ends!
The basket is in perfect condition and measures 6 1/4” long, 5” tall, and 4 1/2” wide. These baskets have always been particularly popular among distinguished character and are definitely some of the best of the Brilliant Period.
