What a beautiful set this is – matched in Libbey’s ever-desirable Ellsmere pattern. I particularly like the untraditional shaped pitcher which Libbey saved for some of their finest work. All seven pieces in the set are signed with the saber-mark.
The Ellsmere pattern adapts excellently to the shape of this pitcher. A flat hobstar is flanked on either side by two bands of triple-miter cane. Rising from this area toward the center of the pitcher is fine crosshatching met with deeply cut notched prism. All the tumblers are cut to match and have particularly deep cutting for drinking glasses.
The pitcher is 7 3/4” tall and over 7” wide. There are six tumblers measuring 3 7/8” tall, 3” wide. The set is in remarkable, perfect condition. The blanks, like most Ellsmere, are perfectly clear and the set sparkles with the brilliance you should expect of glass from this period of art.
