Alluring Hawkes Brazilian Jug SOLD |
I find the shape of this jug entirely handsome and fascinating. It is a large pitcher (or could conceivably be called a claret jug) in Hawkes Brazilian pattern. The exact piece is featured in the older Hawkes catalog reprint by the ACGA.
The lower bout of this jug features deeply cut 8-point clear-button hobstars. Crosshatching falls between all of the points. Fans sprout forth from in between each star and reach a diamond of mixed cutting – triangular clear triangles, diamond shaped fans and crosshatching. Fans finish out the upper portion of the pattern. Gorgeous honeycomb/St. Louis Diamond cutting extends up the entire upper half of the pitcher. The handle of the pitcher also features the same cutting for continuity and attractiveness. The base is finished with a deep, rayed star.
The pitcher is in very good condition with a few small nicks in the pattern. It is quite large measuring 12 1/2″ tall and over 6″ wide. The blank is gorgeous and wood-wheel polished to stunning perfection
