Seldom Seen J. Hoare Monarch Ice Bucket and Under Plate – SOLD
It’s unusual to find an ice bucket with annealed handles, but add to that a matching under plate and you’ve got a true rarity. This set was cut in Hoare’s Monarch pattern.
The Monarch pattern lays out perfectly on this set. The bucket features a very deeply cut central hobstar. Flanking it on either side is the split, crosshatched vesica (that Monarch is so well known for) topped with a Christmas star. Deep, Hoare-style eyebrows are cut to fill in the rest of the pattern. The handles are triple notched and perfectly annealed and the base features a 24-point hobstar. The under plate of this set is cut on both sides. The outer rim is cut on the surface with rich hobstars and crosshatching topped with Christmas stars. The center of the piece is cut on the underside with another 24-point hobstar. It should be noted that the under plate in particular is a very thick, heavy blank.
Both the blank of the ice bucket and the under plate are exceptional quite heavy. Both pieces are in excellent condition and measure 10″ wide with the handles (7″ without) and 6″ tall. Very few ice buckets retain their original underplate and even fewer were done this well.
