Rare Hawkes Aberdeen with Tusks Trumpet Vase – SOLD |
This rendition of Hawkes Aberdeen is one of their rarest patterns. It features the Aberdeen pattern combined with clear tusks. There aren’t many pieces in this version of the pattern and the ones I’ve seen are exceptional. The vase is signed with the Hawkes trefoil on the base.
The top of the vase features four large, diamond-shaped hobstars which are deeply cut. These nestle in a large, split vesica of strawberry-diamond cutting. Dividing the strawberry-diamond cutting is a clear tusk. This was one of the most difficult motifs of the period to cut and really adds an incredibly unique dimension to this wonderful pattern. The base is scalloped and contains a 20 split-point hobstar.
The cutting on this vase is deep, sharp and extremely precise. It is in perfect condition and measures 10″ tall and 4 1/2″ wide.
