Gorgeous, Dazzling Shotton Platter – SOLD |
This plate, was cut by Shotton Cut Glass company. While it doesn’t have a name, it’s one of their best designs and they cut it on high quality pieces. A 16″ version of this exact piece sold at the May 19, 2012 Woody Auction for $8000 – proving that this is quite the coveted design. The pattern is extremely brilliant and all of the cutting sends tons of sparkling prisms in the viewer’s direction.
The center of the plate has several hobstars which are engulfed in vesicas of cane. The cane vesicas run all the way to the edge of the plate where they run into a great motif-a fan of additional cane and russian cutting addorns the edge of the piece. This is a motif I’ve only ever seen on high quality patterns. There are also four large hobstars at the edge of the plate which come to points on one upper side. It’s a gorgeous design and one that displays particularly well on a plate, rather than a standup piece.
This plate is in perfect condition and measures 11 1/2″ wide and 1 3/4″ high. The blank is very clear and vibrant and shows off the dazzling pattern in all of its glory.
