Extremely Large and Majestic J. Hoare Comet Vase – SOLD

This vase is cut in one of Hoare’s most desirable designs – the Comet pattern. Comet patterns have always been popular in ABP glass and standout because of their asymmetrical, swirling designs. The vase is signed very faintly on the base with the Hoare trademark. The exact piece is shown in the new J. Hoare Scrapbook on page and is featured in Rarities in American Cut Glass on page 273.

Swirling, notched cutting bend every which way across this vase giving the pattern much movement. Each band of notching is topped with fan cutting and gives the impression of the tail of a comet. The large hobstars seem to lead the tails every-which-way in this incredible display. The swirling motif continues to the very top of the pitcher. At the neck a new motif begins, which is alternating bands of strawberry-diamond cutting and the notching that makes up a great deal of the pattern. The base is covered with a rayed star.

This vase is in perfect condition with no chips, stains or damage. The vase does have a very slight rock to it, but only when tapped in one direction (no significant). It is quite imposing in size and measures 13 1/2 high and 6 3/4″ tall. Large pieces in rare patterns are extremely difficult to find, making this vase one of the most coveted available.
