Singular Straus American Beauty Bowl – SOLD |
This is a blank shape that I’ve never seen – the bowl rises quite tall and then rolls out ever so slightly. The bowl was made by L. Straus in their American Beauty and beauty it certainly is.
The bowl, which has a flat bottom, has 7 hobstars with fanned centers arranged on the base. The perimeter of the bowl is made up of flat, elaborate hobstars alternating with fields of radiant fans. The pattern is adapted particularly well to this unusual shape. The upper flair portion of the bowl has flute cutting (nearly punties) which are separated by a small hatch cutting.
This piece is in perfect condition with the exception of some very tiny fleabites. It measures9 3/8″ wide and 4 1/4″ tall. The blank is exceptional and the cutting is entirely wood-wheel polished to that silky brilliance that Straus is so well known for.
