This piece was most likely cut by Hawkes. It is unsigned but extremely similar to the Brunswick and Marquise patterns and on a blank I’ve seen cut by Hawkes as well.
The design on this cup features a chain of hobstars around the top portion with fans between each. Trickling down from those are notching and zipper cutting. In between a set of four vertical cuts, are a deep, clear scallop. The base tapers in and features fluted and notched cutting. The handles, which are perfectly annealed are double notched. Please not the dramatic flair of the top – it’s really a stunning shape. The base is finished in a rayed star.
The cup is in perfect conditions with no flaws that I can find. The blank is wonderfully clear and brilliant and measures 8″ wide (handle to handle) and 6 3/4″ tall.
