This is a stellar 7″ plate in Libbey’s very rare and highly desirable Isabella pattern. 7″ plates have always been very desirable for their ability to display a pattern well without taking up a lot of space.
The Isabella pattern features Libbey’s best early cutting. Elongated hexagonal fields of hobnail surround the main portion of the pattern. This main portion is made up with what is essentially a triple miter, clear-button hobstar. I think Isabella is the only pattern in the entire Brilliant Period to feature this motif-if you see it anywhere, you’re most likely looking at a piece of Isabella. Surrounding this hobstar are four fields of crosshatching bordered by two clear channels.
The plate is in perfect condition and measures 7″ wide and 1 1/2″ tall. It’s an old piece with beautiful, silky wood-wheel polishing and on a top quality blank.
