Easily one of Hawkes’ most underrated designs, Chrysanthemum displays a ton of classic quality. The entire piece is wood-wheel polished and has a bright, radiant finish. The metal on this piece is likely silver-plate as it’s unmarked.
The pattern features three large vesicas. The center portion is made up of a split vesica of crosshatching. It’s framed by cane cutting that converges on a clear center, 8-point hobstar. The star is surrounded on either side by fan cutting. Lying between each large vesica is a deeply cut 22-point hobstar.
This basket is in nearly perfect condition with just a slight bit of roughness on the underside where it rests. The blank is fantastic and the handle and rim are in perfect shape.
