This is one of the premiere pieces Dorflinger ever produced. This vase is cut in their “Rich Cut” design and is stellar. It’s on a massive blank that measures over 8″ wide with exceptionally deep cutting! The entire piece is wood-wheel polished to silky perfection.

Dorflinger seems to have reserved this pattern solely for this shape vase. They thought very highly of it as they produced a few cut-to-clear vases (this same shape) with silver rims.  There are four huge, three tiered hobstars cut around the perimeter of the vase. The depth to these stars is staggering! These hobstars are surrounded by notching and crosshatching. As you move up the vase there are four large eight point stars perched between the tops of the huge hobstars. Bands of notching continue up the vase and loop around large bands of cane. The rim is finished with high-reaching cane with great relief and valleys achieved with the teeth. The footed base features a 24-point clear button hobstar.

The vase is in perfect condition with only one minor fleabite in the cutting. It’s very thick and exceptionally clear. It measures just over 11 1/4″ tall and 8 1/4″ wide. These vases are rare and highly sought after – don’t miss out!

This large, beautiful orange bowl was cut by Libbey in their Senora pattern. It is on a stunning, clear blank and is signed Libbey in the center of the bowl.

The center of the Senora pattern starts with a clear paneled cross. Fitting in between the recessed portions of the cross is a vesica of stacked cutting. The top and bottom of the vesica has checked cutting. In between the checking is alternating bands of notching and crosshatching. The rest of the pattern consists of huge, deeply cut hobstars with 20-points.

This orange bowl is on a fabulously water-white clear blank. It is quite large measuring 11 3/4″ long, 8″ wide and 4 1/2″ tall. It’s in perfect conditions with no chips, flakes or cracks. This piece is being offered at a bargain price.

This gorgeous pitcher is cut by Bergen in their Dallas design. They cut two patterns on this blank – this being the more expensive of the two. The pitcher has a great deal of heft and the blank is extremely clear. Every ounce of effort was poured into this piece – both the handle and spout are cut in pattern.

The focal point of the Dallas pattern is a double mitered florence-style hobstar. Bands of cane frame that star and connect at flat hobstar points. The cane cutting also lays the framework for a large field of notched prism. Stair cutting leads up to the rim which is cut in graduating hobstars and hobnail. Even the handle is fully cut with 8-pointed stars going down it. The base is covered with a 24-point hobstar.

The pitcher is in perfect condition and measures 8″ tall and over 7″ wide. The glass extremely clear and the piece almost seems oversized and very heavy!

This is an incredible water set likely made by J. Hoare. The blank is Hoare blank and the cutting on the handle is a motif Hoare used exclusively in addition to the swirl pattern. The set comes with an enormous pitcher and 6 matching tumblers. It’s an old set and therefore unsigned. The blanks are of the highest quality – extremely clear and vibrant. Matching sets of this size are rare, but ones of this quality are close to unheard of.

The Pitcher features a swirled pattern. One band in the swirl is the deepest cut cane I’ve seen. It protrudes so far because of the depth of the intersecting miter. The other major motif is another type of chair-bottom with crosshatched pillars. These two main motifs are separated on either side by two bands of notching sandwiching a large, clear scallop. The contrast of brilliant and clear cutting is absolutely stunning. The top of the pattern is finished with fans and the base of the pitcher is covered with a giant hobstar! The handle of the pitcher is completely cut in a manner that J. Hoare saved for their top of the line pieces and has gorgeous step cutting beneath it – something that is normally left plain on more ordinary pieces.

The condition of the set is shockingly perfect. There are no chips to any of the pieces. There are two polished areas at the rim on either side of the handle – I think this was a factory buffing job and does not take away from the shape of the piece, but rather creates a slight bevel. The rims and bases on all of the glasses are perfect and original. The pitcher is enormous and measures over 9 1/2″ tall and 5″ wide. The tumblers are approximately 4″ tall and 3″ wide. Sets like this seldom come by – do not miss this rare opportunity to own one of the most impressive.

Skip the description and check out the pictures first – they speak for themselves! This is a 7 piece (one large tray and 6 smaller plates) ice cream set cut in Hawkes highly desirable and extremely well-done Kensington pattern. All pieces are signed Hawkes. It should go without saying that sets like this are among the most desirable items in all of cut glass – and ones in rare patterns like this rarely are offered for sale.

The Kensington pattern is one of the most wonderful expanding-star type patterns. Rich hobstar, after rich hobstar sprout from the center. Following from a large, central hobstar are 8 spurs which encapsulate one large, hobstar and one smaller, clear-button hobstar. Each of these stars is separated by a deep triple miter cutting much like Hawkes’ Panel pattern. Nestled between each spur is yet another rich hobstar with awesome kohinoor cutting shooting off in either direction. The edge of the plates are covered with a band of even larger hobstars at the edge. The smaller plates are stunning, meticulous works of art. To fit that much cutting on that much real estate was a supreme task. Often times, on smaller pieces like this, patterns are sacrificed with certain details being left out – these plates however, have ever tiny detail nailed perfectly. Look how many deep hobstars (with actual hobs) there are on the plates!

The set together is nothing short of breathtaking. It shines and sparkles like no other. All pieces are in perfect condition with only some minor scratching on the surfaces. The larger plate measures an even 12″ in diameter an 1 1/2″ tall. The smaller plates measure 7 1/4″ wide and just under 1″ tall. This is one of the best sets Hawkes ever made and would be at home in any advanced collection.

I have 5 more 7″ plates that I would be glad to offer to the purchaser of the set or individual buyers.

It’s unusual to find an ice bucket with annealed handles, but add to that a matching under plate and you’ve got a true rarity. This set was cut in Hoare’s Monarch pattern.

The Monarch pattern lays out perfectly on this set. The bucket features a very deeply cut central hobstar. Flanking it on either side is the split, crosshatched vesica (that Monarch is so well known for) topped with a Christmas star. Deep, Hoare-style eyebrows are cut to fill in the rest of the pattern. The handles are triple notched and perfectly annealed and the base features a 24-point hobstar. The under plate of this set is cut on both sides. The outer rim is cut on the surface with rich hobstars and crosshatching topped with Christmas stars. The center of the piece is cut on the underside with another 24-point hobstar. It should be noted that the under plate in particular is a very thick, heavy blank.

Both the blank of the ice bucket and the under plate are exceptional quite heavy. Both pieces are in excellent condition and measure 10″ wide with the handles (7″ without) and 6″ tall. Very few ice buckets retain their original underplate and even fewer were done this well.

One of the better table lamps I’ve ever seen – it was cut by the Chicago Cut Glass company and is shown proudly in one of their trade-advertisements from 1908 (see the last photo). Most lamps come in at around 15″ tall, so one this large is quite rare. This exact piece was for sale at the ACGA Portland convention for $5400.

The pattern of this lamp features a large cross of cane that meet larger diamond shaped hobstars and crosshatching. In the very center of the dome, there is a crossing of multiple bands of cane which form an 8-point star. The rest of the pattern on the shade features a large, tear-drop shaped vesicas featuring a huge deeply cut hobstar framed by notched prism. The base of the lamp is cut with the same cane as the top and then another notched prism vesica containing crosshatching and a hobstar. The neck of the piece is stair cut and fluted and notched.

The lamp is in extremely good condition, with only a few tiny flakes in the cutting. I have recently had the metal professionally re-plated so it’s in shiny/good condition. The only issue (if you want to consider it that) is that one of the metal chains to pull on the light is slightly shorter than the other. This is visible in the seventh photo. The lamp measures an impressive 22 1/2″ tall and 12″ wide. The dome is practically a punch bowl in size measuring 12″ wide and 6″ tall. Lamps of this size and quality are seldom seen or offered in this price range.

It is seldom that a piece of cut glass absolutely blows me away, but this piece is one of the exceptions. It is cut in Libbey’s Celeste pattern and signed on the edge. I’ve only ever seen this pattern twice before. Celeste is essentailly a combination of all the best Libbey patterns. Little bits of Aztec, Kensington, Marcella and Grand Prize shine through. A gorgeous thing to be certain designed by the master – William C. Anderson.

Where to start with this piece? How about the triple miter cane? That motif is some of the most incredible cutting I’ve seen – with tons of depth and relief to each hobnail – how one never got knocked off, I’ll never know (especially considering there are nearly 120 points to the motif). Each of the fields of triple-miter cane is surrounded by tiny, flat hobstars that meet two clear button hobstars and a larger Christmas hobstar. In between each of these intenesly cut areas is a very deep hobstar with both the top and bottom points filled in with crosshatching – anywhere the cutter had an opportunity to add something on this piece, they did. The center of the bowl features a maltese-cross of diamond point hexad, which was one of the most difficult cuts of the Brilliant Period. They converge at a flat hobstar and have intense checking in between each bar.

The bowl is in excellent condition with only one tiny, small flake to the edge of a tooth. The bowl measures 8 1/4″ wide and 3 1/2″ tall. The blank is of the highest quality – both extremely clear and vibrant. I can’t stress enough how much quality and detail is packed into this piece. Not only is it a true rarity, but the quality pushes this piece into the highest level of cut glass.

If you’re looking at this piece, chances are there’s not much I can tell you about it. Queens is one of Hawkes’ most popular patterns and for good reason – there is an incredible optic effect using the honeycomb cutting and each piece is on a remarkably clear blank. It is signed

A chain of hobstars drapes down the pitcher – each one richly and precisely cut. These chains alternate with honeycomb/St. Louis diamond cutting which provide an opitical illusion of many views through the piece. The handle of the pitcher is quintuple notched and the base is finished with a great 24-point hobstar base.

The pitcher measures 8 3/4″ tall and 5 1/4″ wide and is on the clearest of blanks. It has the thinnest of flakes to the inside of one tooth – otherwise it’s perfect. One of the most popular patterns of the period offered for a bargain.

I’m almost certain I have seen one of these stems in color, signed Hawkes before, but I certainly do not know the pattern. It is very well done. I have also seldom seen this type of stem – with the knob and fluted stem filled with entire solid glass. This leads to a very hefty stem.

The pattern is quite nice combining elements of Kensington and Portland. Eight-pointed, clear button hobstars with clear-button centers adorn the perimeter of each steam. each is separated by a modified kohinoor-type cutting which is situated atop some crosshatched fields. The edge of the pattern is finished with fans. The bases of the champagnes are each finished with 16-spoke split point hobstar.

The stems are in excellent condition and measure 4 1/2″ tall and 3 5/8″ wide. The blanks are very clear with little to no wear.

This footed pitcher/ewer by the talent at Hoare is as good as it gets. It’s giant yet elegant and weighs nearly 8 pounds! Add to the glorious shape that it’s cut in a wide variety of difficult motifs and has a pattern cut base and you’ve got one of the best pitchers of the period. This exact piece is shown in Rarities in American Cut Glass.

This pattern is divided into three main sections. The top and bottom repeat themselves – they’re made up of very deeply cut hobstars, crosshatching, flat Christmas stars, and an unusual crosscut motif that Hoare often employed. The central portion of the ewer contains a large field of cluster cutting with clear buttons that wraps around to the back of the pitcher to meet some large fans. The handle is enormous and covered with quintuple notched honeycomb cutting. Take note of the base – it’s entirely cut in pattern which is a far departure from the much more common star or hobstar. Clearly, this is a very special piece with few, if any, peers.

The pitcher is in perfect condition with only some minor scratches to the base. Again, it weighs 8 pounds and measures 14 3/4″ tall.

You’re looking at one of the most identifiable designs of the Brilliant Period – Cetus. The Cetus pattern was actually a name made up by the Pearsons and there is no official identification for the pattern. However, over the years, most collectors have come to believe the pattern was likely cut by Meriden. The styling, polish and blanks have led to this well established opinion. You’ll notice some similarities between the Cetus pattern and some of Meriden’s greats – Byzantine, Theodora, No. 161, Rose Diamond.

The first thing one notices about this bowl is the enormous 40-point central hobstar. 32-points is an impressive hobstar, but 40 is another thing entirely – pure brilliance. This hobstar has a central clear button to remain parallel with the rest of the pattern. Three graduating clear-button hobstars radiate from the center of the bowl to the edge of the bowl – each one gaining more points as you move towards the edge. Each of these sections is divided by precisely cut cane running into a large scalloped edge.

The bowl is in excellent condition and measures 9″ wide and 4″ tall. The blank and polish are of the highest quality. This is clearly a pattern that is and should be held in the highest esteem.
