Feast your eyes on what is one of the most impressive pieces I’ve had the opportunity to offer. This enormous tray is cut in Hawkes’ Oriental pattern. Oriental is in extremely well thought out and executed design and features a multitude of motifs. It is signed proudly in the center with the Hawkes trademark.

The pattern has three fields which feature an extremely unusual hobstar formation, which features thirteen hobstars each! Each of these areas is surrounded on all sides in zippered cutting which runs into a square-off hobstar. The center of the plate features a beautiful cluster of hobstars. The remaining portion of the pattern consists of chains of hobstars and crosshatching separated by notching and additional crosshatching in the teeth.

There was a 15″ one of these at the 2013 ACGA convention marked $20,000 last year. It sold at the show. This piece is a full 13 1/8″ in diameter and 1 5/8″ tall. It’s in pristine condition – just some minor scratches on the surface and a few tiny, impossible to capture nips at the edge where the hobstars are. It’s very heavy, extremely clear and brilliant blank. 13 1/8″ wide and 1 5/8″ tall. I’ve never seen another.

This tankard was cut in Libbey’s rare and highly desirabe Rajah pattern. It is signed on the handle with the Libbey-sabre trademark. Interestingly, I once owned this same blank in Grand Prize and it was monogrammed  above the handle. This piece is also monogrammed with what I believe is the letter “G.” This is just another sign that someone thought this was a very special piece at the time it was ordered.

This large piece is cut to the 9’s. There is a unique 6-point star formation at either end of the pitcher. They both meet at extended points filled with cane. The points of the formation are filled with 5-point stars filled with crosshatching. These formations give the appearance of shooting stars and are feathered around on all sides. Crossed feathered cutting extends down the front of the pitcher and frames an 18-point, split-point hobstar. Even the handle features feathering to keep in sync with the rest of the pitcher! It’s stunning attention to detail that makes this pitcher so much more impressive than most pieces. The base of the pitcher features a large 24-point hobstar.

This tankard is very large – measuring 13″ tall and 6″ wide. It is on a stunning, clear blank and in perfect condition. I seldom see pitcher this size that are this nice.

This bowl, cut on a Libbey blank, is done in American Cut Glass Company’s Lillian-Travis Design. This design takes on some beautiful Anderson motifs and I believe a piece in this pattern was found in the former home of William C. Anderson.

The Lillian-Travis pattern combines beautiful geometric cutting with realistic, thistle style cutting. Persian cutting drapes around the edge of the bowl. This Persian is unusual in that it has crosshatching included in the motif. Fans burst both over and under each drape. The rest of the pattern involves thistly, realistic cutting. This cutting is left slightly unpolished which provides a great contrast to the brilliant cutting at both the interior and rim. The center features the often-Anderson used split point hobstar with 32 points.

This 3-lobed blank displays this pattern ideally and measures 9 1/2″ wide and 1 3/4″ tall.  It is in excellent condition with only some minor roughness in the pattern.

Sinclaire was one of the best cutting and engraving shops of the Brilliant Period. This piece shows exactly what they were able to achieve. It combines the highest quality glass in a spectacular and graceful form. This large centerpiece’s blank is shown in one of the blank books that I can’t place right now. It is unsigned, but I have seen the same blank signed in a very plain motif.

The geometric portion of this piece borrows exactly from this compote signed Sinclaire. It combines silvery crosshatching interspersed with clear-buttoned hobstars. The rest of the piece is fluted and covered with beautiful, flowery engraving. The large base is oval in shape with deep flutes on the upper portion and a huge hobstar on the underside. While the cutting and engraving is perfect for this piece, the blank is truly captivating. It is blown on on the sides, yet flairs at the end. The shape of the foot only parallels the upper bout of the piece. This centerpiece is dramatic while remaining completely appealing.

The blank is exceptionally clear and measures 13 1/4″ long, 8 1/2″ wide and 8 1/4″ tall. Even the base measures 6 1/2″ long and 5 3/8″ wide! It’s in exceptional condition with no flaws. Libbey makes a “bananna-boat” style shape like this as well and it sells for roughly the same price. I find this piece to far exceed (in terms of quality and beauty) the Libbey ones and it’s far rarer.

This pattern, by Libbey, is easily one of their rarest-Circles and Arcs. I’ve proudly been able to offer 4 pieces in this pattern and those have been the only pieces I’ve ever seen in person. Another example can be seen in the newest rendition of Revi’s American Cut and Engraved Glass. This tray is signed directly in the center with the Libbey-sabre mark.

Circles and Arcs couldn’t be any more of an appropriately named design – circles and arcs of vesicas engulf the entire pattern. The circles are made up of 4 connecting vesicas, consisting of 3 or 4 hobstars each, encompassing a large hobstar. The large hobstar is surrounded on all sides by crosshatching. The layout of this pattern is particularly pleasing to the eye-perfectly proportional while remaining both complicated and simple, depending how one looks at it.

The tray is in good condition but has a few small flakes in the cutting and a couple of nicks on the rim. It measures 14 long, 7 1/4″ wide and 2 1/2″ tall.

This is a particularly unusual ice bucket cut in J. Hoare’s Acme design. As far as I know, Hoare was the only company that applied handles in this manner – horizontally and paralell to the ground.

The Acme pattern displays excellently on this piece Two stacked hobstars are bordered by crosshatching in triangular fields on all sides. These hobstars are divided by deep notching and a band of crosshatching sandwiched between the notching. All of these bands come together in the center of the bucket and form an unusual 6- point star formation. The handles are triple notched and perfectly annealed.

Most ice buckets have more traditional style handles (often tabs) and forms. This ice bucket clearly sticks out from the pack and measures 6″ wide (8 1/2″ including handles) and 4 1/2″ tall. It’s in exceptional condition with only a minor fleabite or two to the rim.

This is an extremely appealing vase by Libbey. It combines some great motifs and an unusual ruffled/pie-crust style rim. The piece is signed with the Libbey-sabre trademark on the base. This is shown in a Libbey catalog as design No. 67.

The upper portion of the design features the Libbey style checking. This motif alternates with fluting and notching at the ruffles in the rim. Flat hobstars make up the next portion of the pattern and are perched atop alternating panels of crosshatching and a crossed panel. Beneath that is a large punty, flat hobstar and notching. This section is divided on either side by a long band of triple miter cane. The base has a coined finished and an unusual rayed star with varying width of miters.

The vase is in excellent condition and measures 10″ tall and 5 1/2″ wide. To me, this is one of the most appealing and attractive vase shapes I’ve seen. The unusual design only adds to the attractiveness. Offered at what I consider to be a bargain price.

We all know of J. Hoare Wedding Ring pattern. It’s easily one of the most desirable pattern’s of the Brilliant Period. The very similar Washington Pattern by J.D. Bergen. In fact, not only is it similar to Wedding Ring, but it’s also much more complex.

There are three main bands weaving throughout this bowl. One band is made up of 3 parallel bands of notching with a scallop between each set. Another band is made up of two long, horizontal streams of notching divided by a very long, clear scallop. The last band is made up of fine persian cutting. The bans are cushioned by a flat hobstar flanked on either side by bands of crosshatching. The center of the bowl features a 24-point hobstar.

The bowl is very heavy and measures 9″ wide and 4 1/4″ tall. It’s in perfect condition on a clear blank. This pattern is complex and beautiful – a far departure from most other ABP designs. To give you an idea of the difficulty it took to cut this pattern – this bowl, at the time of its production, cost a whopping $27.50.

This wonderful stem is cut in J. Hoare’s Crystal design. This is an extremely rare piece – I’ve only ever seen a handful and the pattern is captivating. It’s an old piece and completely wood-wheel polished.

The pattern is set up in a very similar way to Croesus, but instead of can cutting and fans, it has incredible, detailed Persian cutting for the border. Under that are swirling tusks which provide a gorgeous dripping effect from the busy Persian cutting – it almost looks like melting ice. The stem of the wine has a less common knob shape with a full extension air trap. The base has a rayed star.

This wine glass measures just under 5″ tall and 2 5/8″ wide. It’s in excellent condition with no chips, flakes or cracks. This is certainly a rare stem and a gorgeous one at that.

It’s safe to say that if I didn’t own a pattern in this same design, I would never let this piece go. It is easily one of the highest quality pieces I’ve ever seen. The cutting is exceptionally sharp and deep and the blank particularly clear. The piece is signed proudly in the center by Egginton.

It’s far too easy to oversimplify the description of this pattern. Gorgeous and difficult to cut weaving Trellis makes up the border of the piece. A deep, clear channel separates the Trellis cutting from the interior Persian cutting. This portion of the design is extremely sharp and deeply cut. It’s a wonder how they were able to achieve it without breaking the piece on the wheel. And they’ve left it sharp enough to cut your hand on.

The piece is perfect condition and again, the blank is of the highest quality. It measures 9″ wide and 2 3/4″ tall. This is one of my all-time favorite pieces of glass and I know the next owner of this piece will think the same.

These 7″ plates are cut in Jewel’s rare and extremely desirable Aberdeen pattern. The Jewel pattern features wonderful clear cutting which highlights their ability to source the clearest of glass. The concave clear flute cutting also provides a dazzling optical effect.

Clear flute cutting alternates with brilliant cutting. A chain of clear-button hobstars joined by crosshatched fields separates two bands of clear flute cutting. No detail was spared on the piece – look at the points of the center hobstar-each one is filled with crosshatching! The handle of the nappy is even triple notched.

The plates are in excellent condition and measure 6 3/4″” wide and 1″ tall. These plates have likely had professional restoration to the rim and were reduced in size by 1/4″ as the originals were 7″ wide. The restoration work was extremely well done and left no noticeable marks or damage .The blank and polishing are of the finest quality. Very few of these plates exist and nappies are far more common in this pattern. I have 2 plates and they are $600 each.

This is a beautiful rollover bowl in Straus’s seldom-seen Arabesque pattern. This is the first piece I’ve ever had in this design and only the second I’ve ever seen. One thing particularly unusual about the piece is how it almost appears offset in the way they fit the pattern to the bowl. The reason for this being Straus had to align the pattern to the fan portion at the edge which makes the rest of the pattern appear offset. I think this small distinction makes the bowl all the more unique.

Triple miter notched bands weave throughout the entire piece. They make the framework for panels with two varities of cutting. Each panel features 12-point hobstars atop either fan cutting or crosshatching. The crosshatching is unusual in that it stop at clear, uncut glass – most crosshatching stop at a deep miter. The effect is striking and unusual. The rim of the bowl is finished with fans and the center hobstar is deeply cut with 24 points. The bowl is oval in shape and rolls over on the longer side.

This piece is on an excellent blank and entirely wood wheel polished – like most of Straus’s better work. The piece is quite heavy and measures 10 1/8″ long, 9 1/4″ wide and 3 1/4″ tall. The condition is excellent.
