Trays/Platters

This tray or bowl was cut and signed by Sinclaire in their 99 design – as shown in the Sinclaire books.

Sinclaire is well known for their octagonal shaped pieces and this is of the quality that we’ve come to expect of them. A chain of flat hobstars goes around the rim of this . piece and are seperated by triple miter cutting. Beneath that are elongated scallops – showing off the very clear blank – while the base is covered with a 24-point hobstar.

The piece is in perfect condition and measures 9 3/4″ wide and 2″ tall.

Celeste is one of the nicest, most under-the-radar patterns Libbey made. I’ve only ever seen this pattern a handful of times. Celeste is essentially a combination of all the best Libbey patterns. Little bits of Aztec, Kensington, Marcella, and Grand Prize shine through. A gorgeous thing to be certainly designed by the master – William C. Anderson. This tray is signed Libbey along the edge.

Where to start with this piece? How about the triple miter cane? That motif is some of the most incredible cutting I’ve seen – with tons of depth and relief to each hobnail – how one never got knocked off, I’ll never know (especially considering there are nearly 120 points to the motif). Each of the fields of triple-miter cane is surrounded by tiny, flat hobstars that meet two clear button hobstars and a larger Christmas hobstar. In between each of these intensely cut areas is a very deep hobstar with both the top and bottom points filled in with crosshatching – anywhere the cutter had an opportunity to add something on this piece, they did. The center of the bowl features a maltese-cross of diamond point hexad, which was one of the most difficult cuts of the Brilliant Period. They converge at a flat hobstar and have intense checking in between each bar. The amount of depth achieved on the curved blank of this tray is astounding.

This gorgeous tray was cut in Clark’s Magnolia pattern. The tray is signed in the center with the Clark script logo.

I adore this shape. Pockets towards the edge of the tray envelop large, deep hobstars. The center of the tray features interconnected vesicas. The vesicas are made up of a crossed-crosshatching and encase a fan-buttoned cane cutting. Even more impressive are tiny, thin tusks cut in the center of the piece that makeup the outline of the vesicas!

The tray is in exceptional condition and measures 15 3/4″ long, 9 1/2″ wide, and 2″ tall. This is a wonderfully, unique shape for a tray – one that will clearly standout in any collection.

This is a wonderful, large tray cut in Expanding Star. The Expanding Star design varies greatly in quality – I attribute this to different firms cutting this design and time periods when produced. I have often heard this people attribute this pattern to Libbey or Elite. I do not thing this version was done by either, but the blank was likely produced by Libbey. I have never seen a nicer piece in Expanding Star than this tray – the cutting and glass quality are up there with the best.

As the name suggests, Expanding Star is just that – the pattern is made up of a giant expanding star. The center of the tray has a circular star formation made of a flat hobstar and three-dimensional crosshatched fields. Several deep miters intersect and make the pattern all the more complex. Further outward in the expansion are pairs of two flat, Christmas-style hobstar, which eventually lead to clear-button hobstars framed by fans. In between each point of the overall star, lies a rich, deeply-cut hobstar.

The tray is in immaculate condition and measures . This pattern was never done better than it was on this piece, and it’s a prime example of American Brilliant Cut Glass.

This is a very detailed 14″ tray by Egginton. The design is similar to their Cambria pattern, but much more detailed with tighter, more skilled cutting. It is signed with the Egginton crescent and star logo.

The center of the platter features a six point star formation. Branching from that are 6 bands of tight cane framed on both sides by beautiful, precise notching. Lying in between each branch is a large hobstar framed with crosshatching, perched atop a tight fan.

The plate is in excellent condition-no damage can be found and the blank is exceptionally clear – as I would expect from Egginton on a piece of this caliber. It measures 14″ wide and 1″ tall. Plates of this size are automatic rarities, but one cut this well only adds to the draw and desirability.

This wonderful 12″ tray is cut in Hawkes’ highly collectible Devonshire pattern. The blank on this piece exceptionally thick and heavy – I’m guessing it is an older piece and it is unsigned.

The Devonshire continually expands with a variety of contrasting motifs. At the core of the tray is 12 split-point hobstar. Following this hobstar are kite-shaped fields of cross hatching. Either side of the crosshatching is flanked by crystal clear uncut areas. The second to last portion of the devonshire includes large diamond-shaped fields of strawberry diamond cutting. Finally, mirror-like fans top off the pattern as they make their way up to the serrated edge.

It is crucial to understand the quality of blank this piece is on – the finest, heaviest, and most brilliant one I’ve ever seen a piece of Devonshire on. It measures exactly 12″ wide and 1 3/8″ tall. The tray is in nearly perfect condition with only some very minor pattern roughness.

This deeply engraved intaglio set was done in Pairpoint’s Apple pattern. There is one central platter and six individual serving dishes. It is rare to find sets this entirely complete, especially of this quality.

The central tray features two overlapping apples hanging from a branch and surrounded by many leafs and other, smaller apples. The entire border is made up of weaving apples, branches and leaves. The smaller dishes carry the same border and show one apple, gently hanging from a branch. The detail, depth and realistic nature of this intaglio is equal, if not better than many pieces of Tuthill.

Both the tray and the dishes are quite heavy. Each one has a recessed portion and then a lip (where the patter border is displayed). The set is in astonishingly great condition, aside from surface scratching, there is only one chip (can be seen in the first photo on the right) to one of the smaller dishes – all the other pieces are perfect. The platter measures 10 1/2″ wide and 1 1/4″ tall. Each of the serving dishes is 5 1/4″ wide and just under 1″ tall. I’m offering this entire set for a bargain price that you will not likely see any other set of this quality offered for.

This bowl or tray, in Libbey’s Princess pattern, is a particularly unusual blank by the Libbey glass company. This is an early piece, with wood-wheel polish and is therefore, not signed.

The Princess pattern is an exercise in classic cut glass design.  Two main panels alternate with one another and are separated by fan cutting. The first panel is made up of three sections of crosshatching and one section of an unusual and very Libbey crosscut. The other type of panel is made up of strawberry-diamond cutting. Under each of these fields is either deep miters or additional crosshathcing. The center of the piece is finished off with a beautiful 16-point hobstar.

This bowl is quite heavy and measures 10 1/8″ at the widest and 2″ tall. It’s in perfect condition save for a few fleabites in the pattern. This is a great opportunity to own a large piece, in a known pattern, for a meager price!

This is a wonderful rectangular tray which is signed Hawkes. It’s also cut with Hawkes U-notches on the rim. The funny thing about the piece is it’s clearly in Elmira’s No. 17 pattern as it’s clearly picture in the catalog. I have seen two more of these trays also signed Hawkes – it appears one company was contracting out the other for this piece.

The center of this tray consists of a very unusual six-point star formation made up of cane, crosshatching, and fans. Each one of the points of this formations is almost rounded out with vesicas of crosshatching. Falling in between each point of the 6-point star are large, richly cut hobstars.

This beautiful piece in perfect condition with the exception of one tiny sliver chip in the recession of the teeth – otherwise it’s pristine. It measures 14 1/4″ wide, 8″ wide, and 2″ tall.

This is a beautiful ice cream tray in an unknown pattern. The blank quality and cutting is exceptionally high quality, so it was most likely made by one of the premier manufacturers of the period!

The pattern consists of a central star of David formation surrounding a hobstar. The points of hte formation are made up of flat hobnail which are surrounded by another layer of crosshatching and cane. Beautiful propellor-like vesicas divide the rest of the pattern which is made up of large hobstars. The ends of the tray have two particularly lovely and unsually shaped hobstars. They are quite sharp.

The tray measures 14 1/4″ long, 7 3/4″ wide and 2 1/2″ tall. Again, I can express how beautiful and clear the blank of this piece is. There is hardly any damage-just some small fleabites in the cutting and one or two on the edge. This piece is worth far more than what I’m asking, so don’t miss out.

This is a beautiful near-rectangular ice cream tray in Libbey’s seldom seen Leota pattern. The pattern shows quite well on this form and Libbey obviously put some of their best design effort into this pattern.

The Leota pattern consists of a central diamond field surrounding a 24-point hobstar. Adjacent to the diamond field is an unusual split-diamond motif featuring crosshatching.  The rest of the tray is covered in a plethora of both flat and multi-dimensional hobstars.

The tray in on a water white blank and radiates any light that hits it. It measures 15 1/4″ long and 9 5/8″ wide. Other than a couple of very tiny fleabites on the rim, the piece is in perfect condition. This tray is one of the best bargains on this site, so don’t miss out!
