Pitchers

This pitcher, which was likely cut by J. Hoare, is a great example of the early portion of the Brilliant Period. It feautres many design elements that J. Hoare was fond of using early on – these types of hobstars, clear tusks and Russian cutting along with these fanned center hobstars. The pitcher is exceptionally heavy and clear.

This barrel shaped pitcher has a large 24-point fanned center hobstar on both sides and the front. These hobstars are divided by a band of cane, followed by a band of clear, convex tusk and finally a band of russian. The dynamic combination of motifs is really singular to this pattern. The handle is treated like Hoare often chose – fluted and notched and the spout is the same. The base of the pitcher features a large 24-point fanned center hobstar keeping the pattern completely parallel throughout.

This pitcher is extremely heavy and is wood-wheel polished to silky perfection. It measures 8 3/4″ tall and 6″ wide and is in perfect condition. The combination of early Hoare motifs on this pitcher really come through and leave a last impression for any onlooker of the piece.

This is an elegant water set in Libbey’s Corona (formerly known as Spillane) pattern. All pieces are signed with the Libbey Saber mark.

The Corona pattern consists of two main portions. The first portion is made up of a large vesica of two hobstars. Each hobstar is topped off with checking and divided by crosshatching. The other portion of the pattern is made up of 4 vertical bands of notched prism. Weaving among these bands are deep clear miters and the bands are sandwiched by additional hobstars and checking. The base of the pitcher is finished wiht a rayed star and the handle is triple notched. The pitcher is quite heavy and has a thick, almost paperweight like base – a really impressive touch.

The pitcher measures 11 5/8″ tall and 5 1/4″ wide and tumblers just under 4″ tall and 3″ wide. All pieces are perfect with the exception of just the tiniest amount of pattern roughness to the base of two of the tubmlers (this is extremely minimal). I beautiful, hard to find set!

This is a very heavy (8 lb) champagne pitcher in what is an unknown pattern to me. The cutting looks like Hoare or Clark but those are just two shots in the dark.

The cutting on this pitcher is sharp enough to cut your hand on – even by gently handling it. The fine, sharp prism cutting extends up the almost hourglass-like blank until it reaches diamond fields of fan and a large hobstar. Elongated bands of crosshatching also reach from the bottom fully to the top. The base of the pitcher is covered with a beautiful 24-point hobstar and the handle is triple notched. The spout is fluted and notched.

This elegant form measures a proud 12 3/4″ tall and 6 1/4″ wide at the base. It’s in perfect condition with some minor scratches to the base – which is to be expected of such a heavy piece.

While this pitcher is very similar to Sylph by Monroe, it is cut in Bergen’s Ivy pattern..

This pattern consists of a central band of Hobstar divided by “double-helixed,” (I’m taking credit for that term!) bands of crosshatching. Shooting out from either side of the central band are alternating panels of notched prism and clear, sharp panels. The handle is finished in a technique featuring flutes, notching and a parallel set of 3 lines. The base is finished with a well cut 24-point hobstar.

This pitcher is on an exceptionally clear blank and the cutting is wood wheel polished to mirror-like perfection. There is no damage to the pitcher and it measures 9 1/4″ high, 5 1/2″ diameter at the base, and 4 1/4″ across the top.

This is a lovely short pitcher in Clark’s Genoa pattern. The pattern is shown many times in the ACGA Clark catalog reprints. I can’t seem to find a signature, but wouldn’t be surprised if it’s signed as Clark’s signatures were often faint.

The Genoa pattern is made up of one main, large 18-point hobstar surrounded by triangular fields of crosshatching. In between each of these large sections are panels of 3 flat hobstars and 3 flat fans. The base is covered in a really beautiful 24-point hobstar. The handle is double notched.

The pitcher measures 8 1/4″ high by 5 1/2″ wide and is on a great blank that is in line with some of Clark’s best work.
