Pitchers

Hawkes Queens is one of the most collectible and desirable designs of the Brilliant Period. One of the nicest features of the pattern is the glass itself – it’s always cut on high-quality, extremely clear blanks. This piece is signed with the Hawkes trademark.

Cascading punties/honeycomb extends down the length of the pitcher – providing an optic effect and a very apparent view of the quality and clarity of the blank. Next to each of the honeycomb section is a chain of deep, diamond shaped hobstars. The handle is quintuple notched and the base is finished with a 24-point hobstar.

The pitcher is in perfect condition and on the highest quality blank. It measures 8 3/4″ tall and 5 1/4″ wide.

This unique pitcher is cut in an unknown, very unusual design. It’s very large and heavy and on a blank I’m not sure I’ve seen before.

Large sunburst are on either side of the pitcher, house a 20-point hobstar. They are surrounded by a deep circular miter which leads into more swirling miters and a horizontally placed band of cane. This cane is framed on either side by notching and the rest of the entire pitcher is notched and scalloped – with very deep, clear scallops on the face of the pitcher. The neck of the pitcher has a band of diamond fields of crosshatching and the base is covered with a 24-point hobstar.

The pitcher is in excellent condition with a couple of tiny fleabites to the cutting. It’s very large and heavy measuring 12″ tall and 6 1/2″ wide.

This is a high quality pitcher in a pattern I’ve never seen. The variety of motifs and clarity of the glass suggest a top quality glass house.

A four sided field features large hobstars framed by fan cutting. Below each hobstars are two bands – one of cane and one of some modified cane cutting with fanned centers. These bands converge at a flat hobstar with step cutting above and below it. There is also an expanded Persian-style cutting. The handle is triple notched and the base is finished with a large, deep hobstar.

The pitcher is in perfect condition and measures and is in perfect condition.

This is a beautiful pitcher that looks to be done by Pairpoint. Pairpoint used this type of handle attachment almost exclusively and that is the basis for the attribution.

The side of the pitcher has 3 stacked hobstars with curved miters housing notched cutting. The front of the pitcher really stands out with a unique combination of crosshatching, hobnail, cane and a central hobstar.  The handle is also cut in pattern while the base features a 28-point hobstar base.

The pitcher is in excellent condition and features no damage or issues. It measures 13″ tall and 7″ wide and is quite heavier than most pitchers this size.

This is one of the finest pieces of cut glass, and certainly color, I’ve ever had the opportunity to offer. This oversize tankard, cased cranberry cut to clear, was made by Dorflinger in their ever-desirable No. 99 design. Dorflinger often reserved this pattern for some of their best pieces of color – and this one is no exception. Adding more draw to the piece is an elaborate Tiffany & Co collar.

The color shown is a vibrant, American cranberry and the precision with which the piece is cut is unparalleled.  Bands of deeply cut cane are divided by notching where Dorflinger was still able to leave some of the color on this narrow motif. A chain of hobstars drapes down the sides and front of the pitcher as well – each hobstar center highlighted with a light fan to show off more color. All of the cranberry remains in tact along the base where a richly cut, 24-point hobstar can be found. The handle is cut in the old Dorflinger style of one thick, long band of cane. The Tiffany collar of this piece is extravagant and fit only for a piece of this caliber. Heavy, detailed grape vines extend across the lower edge with a dramatic sweep of the rim as it moves towards the handle. The lip of the pitcher is monogrammed with what appears to be, “MLC.” Possibly a relative of Charles T Cook for whom another similar pitcher was made.
This piece should not be considered without knowing that another important and extremely similar piece sold in 2008 (one of our country’s worst economic times). At a Woody Auction in St. Charles, Missouri, a different shaped pitcher, also cranberry cut to clear by Dorflinger in No. 99 with nearly the same Tiffany collar sold for $49,000. It is now regarded as one of the most valuable pieces of Dorflinger glass.. That pitcher was said to have been made as a presentation piece for the president of Tiffany at the time.
This pitcher measures 14 3/4″ tall, 6 1/2″ across the spout, 5 1/2″ across the base. It weighs 7 pounds and is in mint condition with the exception of one tiny nip in the handle cutting.

This unusually shaped pitcher was cut by Bergen in their well-done, early Continental design. It is completely wood-wheel polished and has that shimmery, smooth finish that the early portion of the ABP is known for.

The Continental pattern is set up in repeating rows of 8 pointed stars with jeweled centers. The next row is pointed crosshatching and clear 5-pointed star formation. The spout and upper portion of the pitcher are cut in a manner that I think is specifically done by Bergen only – I’ve only ever seen this cut on a cornucopia pitcher also. The handle is completely cut in pattern and the base is finished with a rayed star.

This pitcher is so finally detailed, it really makes one wonder how these cutters didn’t go crosseyed after a day’s work. This piece is cut in Meriden’s 161 design – one of their most coveted and hardest to find.  The 161 pattern is particularly striking, especially on this pitcher.

Four bands of cutting spur from the center of the pitcher – they include two bands of cane on either side of a clear-button hobstar chain. The hobstar chains are surrounded on either side by tight, detailed checking. In the very center of the design is additional clear button hobstar with more checking. What’s stunning about this picture is how the pattern symmetrically repeats itself on the lower portion of the piece. It almost looks like a sunset reflecting off the ocean. The center and back quarters of the pitcher feature a long vesica with three deeply stacked hobstars divided by checking. The vesica sits atop a large, star of David. The handle of the pitcher is triple-notched. The base of the pitcher is finished with a rayed star.

The blank on the pitcher is beautiful and really allows the meticulous cutting pop off the glass. It measures 10 1/4″ tall and 6 1/4″ wide. It’s in perfect condition with hardly a scratch on it. After seeing and handling this pitcher, it’s no mystery as why this pattern remains so popular with collectors – it’s particularly well done and shows so well on this form.

This very unusual pitcher was made by Libbey and is signed with their trademark. It’s extremely unusual in that it has a monogram on either side integrated into the pattern. The engraving reads ‘M.H.’ Clearly this piece was a one-off, special order.

The Ellsmere pattern adapts excellently to the shape of this pitcher. A flat hobstar is flanked on either side by two bands of triple-miter cane. Rising from this area toward the center of the pitcher is fine crosshatching met with deeply cut notched prism. The handle is triple notched and the base is finished with a 20-point hobstar.

The pitcher is in perfect condition and measures Presentation pieces like this are always embraced by collectors as examples of what the artists were able to achieve during the Brilliant Period. It measures 7″ high and 5″ wide.

This is a beautiful smaller pitcher that I attribute to Libbey. In addition to the Libbey like cutting and polish, the handle’s thumb rest has  a particular type of notching around it that I’ve only seen on older Libbey handled pieces.

The pattern of the pitcher features beautiful stacks of three hobstars separated by “X” shaped crosses. These are made up of crosshatching and a central triple miter cane button. The front of the pitcher is stretched out a bit more with a large fan framed by the crosses and a lower hobstar. The base is finished in a 24 point hobstar. The handle is triple notched and has the unique, Libbey-style notching a the thumb rest.

The blank of the pitcher is gorgeous and measures just over 8 3/4″ tall and 4 1/2″ wide. It’s in immaculate condition. I’m offering this piece at a bargain price that you simply can’t purchase this quality for.

This beautiful pitcher is cut in highly-collectible Monarch pattern by J. Hoare. It is signed on the base with the Hoare trademark.

The pithcer has a stack of deeply cut hobstars separated by fields of crosshatching. These stacks are divided by a flat, 8-point star toped with clear, mitered panels on both sides. A Christmas-style star finishes out the design along with fan cutting. The entire neck and mouth of hte piece is finished with gorgeous stair cutting. The handle is triple notched and the base is finished with a rayed star.

The pitcher is excellent condition with no flaws. It measures 9″ tall and 6″ wide. I think the Monarch pattern tends to display better on stand-up pieces and this is the perfect example of that vertical orientation.

This pitcher and tumblers are both cut in Libbey’s Sultana pattern. All five pieces are signed with the Libbey sabre mark. Libbey made the Sultana pattern considerably more elaborate on this pitcher adding several additional motifs.

Two large hobstars adorn the side of the pitcher. Strawberry-diamond cutting falls between each of these large hobstars and run into an unusual split crosshatched motif. This split crosshatching intersects with two flat hobstars. The rim of the pitcher is cut with the elaborate fans that the Sultana pattern is so well known for. The handle of the pitcher is triple notched and the base is finished with a rayed star. The tumblers also include a rayed star on the base.

The pitcher is in nearly perfect condition with one tiny flake on the spout. It measures 8 3/4″ tall and 5″ wide. Two of the tumblers are in mint condition. One of the others has a tiny nick at the rim and the other has a professionally touched up rim. Each tumbler measures 3 3/4″ tall and 3″ wide. Complete water sets are hard to come by and this one is offered at a bargain price for your consideration.
