This is a gorgeous blowout in Hawkes early Persian pattern. The entire piece is quite sharp, yes wood wheel polished. The blank is quite unusual with an almost four leaf base with the sides of the bowl pinching in the center. I have sold this exact bowl, in years past, in excess of $1,000. I believe Hawkes executed Persian better than the other early companies that cut this design.
Persian is setup very closely to the Russian design. The main difference lies in what is on each button – in this case, a clear-center hobstar. The pattern, with the countless intersecting cuts, reflects light and sparkles like a brilliant diamond.
The condition is excellent – I find nothing wrong with it. The blank is clear and again, wood-wheel polished. The bowl measures 9 1/2″ long, 8 1/2″ wide, and 3 1/2″ tall.
