One of the Best Trays in Cut Glass – Hawkes Oriental – SOLD

Feast your eyes on what is one of the most impressive pieces I’ve had the opportunity to offer. This enormous tray is cut in Hawkes’ Oriental pattern. Oriental is in extremely well thought out and executed design and features a multitude of motifs. It is signed proudly in the center with the Hawkes trademark.

The pattern has three fields which feature an extremely unusual hobstar formation, which features thirteen hobstars each! Each of these areas is surrounded on all sides in zippered cutting which runs into a square-off hobstar. The center of the plate features a beautiful cluster of hobstars. The remaining portion of the pattern consists of chains of hobstars and crosshatching separated by notching and additional crosshatching in the teeth.

There was a 15″ one of these at the 2013 ACGA convention marked $20,000 last year. It sold at the show. This piece is a full 13 1/8″ in diameter and 1 5/8″ tall. It’s in pristine condition – just some minor scratches on the surface and a few tiny, impossible to capture nips at the edge where the hobstars are. It’s very heavy, extremely clear and brilliant blank. 13 1/8″ wide and 1 5/8″ tall. I’ve never seen another.
